The Banquet Department

May 6th, 2008 -- Posted in Useful Tips | No Comments »

Alot of people associate hotels with just rooms or the food & beverage department, and they are not wrong about it either. But working in one of the tallest hotel in the world and a 5 star one at that for more than 15 yrs, I can honestly tell you that the misconception that the Banquet Department only caters to wedding and annual dinners is not uncommon.

The fact is this, the banquet department is also in charge of the convention/conference rooms that the hotel has to offer to corporate clients and many a times, for big conventions and meetings, computer rentals is a must. Outsourcing them is a common practice of most hotels as company like CRE has the latest and the state of the art equipment to cater to every individual corporate client of ours. What is best about outsourcing to a reliable and reputable company like CRE is they not only deliver but set up all equipments as per request by our corporate clients. So the next time you think of the banquet department, don’t think they only take care of the hotel’s food.. and weddings, they also cater to meetings, conventions and AGM of huge corporate organization.

The Hotel Industry

May 6th, 2008 -- Posted in Useful Tips | No Comments »

Being in the hotel industry for the last 15 yrs before getting a break with a Spanish Telecommunication company in Madrid was one of the best thing that happened in my life. You see I started at the lowest rank in the hotel industry and if you know the hotel industry .. climbing the corporate ladder wasn’t easy at all. The long hours and the dedication to my job wasn’t enough.

I went from working as a Front Office Assistant, to Training Assistant to Assistant Business Manager to Marketing Development Assistant and Sales and Marketing Assistant Manager. I’m sure you notice alot of “Assistant” in my title by now right..?? Yes.. I had the experience and I was doing the work of the boss but I was going nowhere. With the long hours at work, commitment at home, there was just no way i could have gone to an open university back home.

For people like me, the only way to upgrade oneself is to look into Online Management Courses. It was not a very hard decision for me because distance learning like the one with Kaplan would give me the foundation that I need for the next promotion in a Regional Marketing and Sales position that I had been eyeing on for the longest time. You get the flexibility of studying at home and earning a degree in your own time at your own pace.

Kaplan Open Learning has courses entirely online making it easy for you go to classes just about anywheres and anytime that is convenient to you. Its classes are a replica to real university classroom environment. Your studies are based and tailored to simulate real work experience, thus making it not only interesting but one that you can relate to. Your course begins immediately as soon as you meet certain criteria required. And you get all the student support you need, just like when you go to school for it. You get your academic adviser, tutor support and IT support that you might need to fix any technical problems over the phone. And yes.. you can take the degree with Kaplan even if you are not residing in UK. It’s an awesome opportunity for anyone wanting to upgrade or change their jobs or even those who are starting their own business. Like my grandmother used to say.. it’s only a piece of paper but that piece of paper weighs a ton.
