Although I lived in a fishing town, seafood is just as expensive if not more. These 2 pieces of salmon cost me about $8.00, by my standard for home cooked meal.. this is considered expensive .. but can’t helped it.. coz’ the brat needed her omega 3 fats. Baking it was simple and fast. 12 mins at 350 degree oven.. and it’s ready to be eaten.. i put some butter on it.. and some paprika on it.. and that’s about all. We donch usually put so much butter .. but the brat wanted to help and I let her.  Also I have another recipe for Salmon With Pineapple Orange Relish but that will be for another time eh.

Heaty Food & The Man

Posted by HoWeiSek | BBQ,The Other Half,Useful Links,Useful Tips | Saturday 17 May 2008 5:49 pm

The westerners don’t know anything about the cooling food and the heaty food.  Yes.. some food like fried or BBQ food can make one fall ill and get sore throat easily.  These heaty food or the way it is cooked can sometimes find your face with lots of pimples and acne.  The man had been eating alot of BBQ food and refuses to eat steam or baked food, I think i need to find a best acne treatment in preparation for stuff to sprout out on his face.

Food At Baby Shower

Posted by HoWeiSek | Amusing/Bizarre,Canadian,Hotels | Saturday 17 May 2008 5:44 pm

I get alot of baby shower invitations throughout the year ever since living in Canada. Baby showers weren’t exactly popular back home but in the west it is. Most baby showers that i go to are at the homes of the mummies but I had gone for one that was in a hotel.  Only a small group was invited.. so it kinda felt exclusive.. and the food was exquisite.  And guess what..?? the Executive Chef even came out to greet and chat with us.. and what do you know.. the Executive Chef was the husband… muahhahaha!

My Perfect Peanut Butter Jar

peanutbutter3.jpg

My in-laws are very practical people and even with them being so practical.. i know that they can appreciate this Peanut Butter Jar. It’s a perfect one.. with 2 lids instead of 1 only. That way you never have to leave any behind nor get your fingers messy just to get the last drop of peanut butter. Very smart ..!!! I don’t know how much it is.. but i’ll try finding it out.. and getting one for myself and my in-laws.

Apartment Therapy Kitchen Bag

kitchn-market-bag.jpg

I normally do not buy bags that are expensive .. especially my grocery bag because I can get them at 0.99 cents from Pete’s Frootique and they area awesome looking. But aside from being an eco friendly shopper who loves toting re-usable bags, I’ll have to say that this $15 will be well spent because I loved Apartment Therapy and includes shipping and handling. And the bag was designed by a reader and a fan. So if you are into Apartment Therapy like I am.. show some support.. coz’ only limited quantities left.

An Expensive Lunch Treat

Posted by HoWeiSek | Useful Links,Useful Tips | Friday 16 May 2008 2:55 pm

My insurance agent always chooses to bring me out for lunch whenever she has got a new policy to introduce to me. I love her to bits.. but the lunch always turned out to be a pretty expensive lunch.  But she does have some cheap life insurance when I first started buying my insurance from her… and i never looked back.  Next time, I’ll have to make sure she brings me to an expensive restaurant .. like the Chez Bruno.

Fast Food & Pop

Posted by HoWeiSek | Drinks,Fast Food,Useful Links,Useful Tips | Friday 16 May 2008 1:58 pm

For those who are not aware of it .. pop is actually soft drinks .. like cola.  The Canadians don’t call them soft drinks .. they called them pop.  Even my 4 yrs old.. calls it pop.  The amount of fast food and pop that the people in this town eat, one sees an obese kid way too often.  Our babysitter loves eating pizza and pop, i had told her that if she doesn’t eat healthy really soon, even the top diet pills wouldn’t be able to help her.  The amount of fast food consumed here is terrifying, I myself have never eaten so much fast food in my entire life except now.

McDonald’s Fine Customers

Posted by HoWeiSek | Amusing/Bizarre,Fast Food | Thursday 15 May 2008 9:32 pm

Eat up .. and move along is the message that McDonald’s is telling their customers in England. Else risk getting fine ..! And I’m so not kidding. At 40 McDonald’s in England drive thru’ customers were given 45 mins to finish their meals and leave the parking lot before a $225 ticket is issued. Apparently this was brought about because people were abusing their parking privileges at the establishments. And if you do not pay the fine, the fee rises and McDonald’s will take you to court for it.

We see awful loitering outside and inside of our famous coffee place – Tim Hortons. Perhaps Tim Hortons should take a page outta what McDonald’s is doing ..?? Maybe that would keep the people from blocking the door at Tim Hortons.. and the awful cigarette butts all of the entrance of Tim Hortons.

Executive Chef

I had the misfortune of working with one of the executive chef back home but luckily not directly under him. .or anywheres near him. I was in communications .. so I had to liaise with him every now and then for the hotel’s promotions. Being his co-worker was the most unfortunate event of my life.. because he was not only grouchy.. but thought he was a genius (so entitled to being a grouch) .. and he had such a messy love life.

Everytime i bumped into him. .in a night spot.. he thought i was spying on him..!!!! GOT TIME..!!! Anyhow.. he thought he was a casanova.. and that all women should fall on his feet. Sad eh..?? Of course, when me and my friends.. didn’t even acknowledged him. .when we met him outta work area.. he felt slighted… and well.. of course he wasn’t too happy. Hurt his ego .. i think. I’m wondering if all executive chefs are like that..?? And because of this particular person.. i never wanna have anything to do with any executive chefs.

Building Hotels

Posted by HoWeiSek | Useful Links,Useful Tips,Vacation | Thursday 15 May 2008 7:17 pm

15 yrs in a task force for a large hotel chain in Asia, whereby we were brought in during the initial stage before the hotel was even on the ground and its supporting beams up, I can only say that steel building was the best material to use when building hotels. Not only did the owners benefited from the price of putting up a steel building, steel has resistant in aging unlike wood. It doesn’t lose it strength, therefore it is safe for use for hotel rooms. Construction was fast and most importantly it was fire resistance and makes it absolutely safe for our hotel guests of the future.

Yogurt is something that my lil’ brat eats since she was young. And she loves it!! and i’m really happy seeing her chomped it right down. And then i found this organic yogurt in the market. Stoneyfield farm is the world’s leading organic yogurt producer. They said it is a body and earth friendly yogurt. They also used organic milk from Canadian farms, along with organic fruit and cane sugar. Each serving of yogurt boasts of prebiotic and probiotics to help replenish intestinal microflora. In other words, it is good for kids and adults. Plus they also have baby yogurt called Yo, Baby! for toddlers too. Made from whole milk… that provides the energy toddlers need and helps their bodies to absorb fat-soluble vitamins. Comes in plain, strawberry, vanilla, Apple blackberry and cranberry raspberry flavors. I think it is awesome that they are also giving out coupons to entice you to try.

This is only a summer thing with Macdonalds, just like their lobster sandwich. Every summer.. the Macdonalds here do try to bring in something new for limited period. Many years ago, when the American dollars were great.. we get alot of Americans coming over just because of the lobster sandwich. I kid you not..!! This Vanilla Ice Coffee just started about a week ago. But you have to make sure you tell them to give you more ice.. because the first 2 times i bought it.. it wasn’t that cold.. and quite sweet. So with more ice.. it actually tasted good. In anticipation of a hot summer.. this $1.39 Vanilla Ice Coffee is a great thing.

All Your Info In The Hotel

Posted by HoWeiSek | Useful Links,Useful Tips | Wednesday 14 May 2008 3:31 pm

Working in the hotel industry for 15 yrs has actually taught me a few things. One of those things is the day to day running of a hotel. Every time you leave a comment in a restaurant or hotel, or participate in a convention at a hotel, have you ever wondered how safe that information is kept..?

The hotel that I used to work for used an online backup solution just like the ones provided at Canadian Data Protection Toronto because they are alot safer and more reliable than unencrypted tape backups. Our IT guys at the hotel cannot handle the volume of work in our network. I also understand that under the Canadian privacy (PIPEDA) laws, companies like the hotel i used to work for are obligated to keep customer data confidential. Canada Backup ensures that all your customer’s data remains private and stored in Canada, and is not subjected to the Patriot Act as opposed to those online companies that store your data in the USA.

Surely, as a Canadian or a Canadian Company, you do not want your private information or those of your customers to be a matter of public record right..? Toronto Online Backup and Recovery gives you and your customers a peace of mind when they patronize your hotel or establishment. Whether you’re a small or big company in Canada, you would want to use a Canadian online backup because they are secure, very reliable, and you can access your off site data backup 24/7 and 365 days a year.

Staub – Mussel Pot

mussellblue_b.jpg

Actually saw this on another blogger’s blog today.. and can’t helped but thought to myself.. this is a wonderful pot to have and owned. This is a winner of the 2003 Gourmet Cookware Award, Staub Mussel Pots are models of service and preparation. A stainless steel strainer separates the mussels from the sauce, making flavorful juices available for dipping from the first bite to the last. The generous Family Mussel Pot holds up to six pounds of mussels. The smaller two-quart pot comes in a version without a knob, so the lid can be used upside-down to hold empty shells. For someone who loves seafood and mussels this much. .i think i can afford to buy it .. only at $89.00. Donch you just love the blue color..??

Posted by HoWeiSek | Useful Links,Useful Tips | Wednesday 14 May 2008 1:09 am

We were all invited to the birthday party of a client one time and we had thought that it would be the company or the boss who would be picking up the tap.  Well. .the boss did.. but the secretary bought a present for the client.. and expected us to pay for it.  In order to impress the client, she bougt a Zero Halliburton laptop case but I’ll have to say that it looked really good .. but the cost..!!  what a costly lunch..!
