25 Random Things About Me
1) I came from Hong Kong and I missed HK a lot…. The food & shopping part.
2) I came to SF as an international student in the beginning. SO expensive. (Thanks mom! Thanks sister!)
3) I am now a citizen. I missed HK but I don’t want to go back for work.
4) I love food but always want to lose some weight…. Always admire the skinny long legs in mini skirt.
5) A true believer of “There is no ugly women, but only lazy women.”
6) Try all the time to maintain my young look. Not only for my bf, but for myself also.
7) Biggest entertainment at home is to watch/search the most current TVB series even though 99% know what the script will be about.
8) So happy to see my 1 yr old niece and 4 yrs old nephew every night when I come home from work. So nice to live with them and my sister, brother-in-law, mom and dad.
9) Always want to say “I love you” in Chinese to my parents but too shy to do so. Without them, without me. Without my mom, without my smooth face. Thanks for all the food and soups they prepare everyday. Thanks for digging out my dirty clothes and clean them by hands. Thanks…
10) Without coming to SF, I will definitely not the one who I am now. I maybe am still working from morning till midnight for a bit of salary.
11) I came from a middle class family that both parents work hard. We was at the bottomBefore immigrated to SF, we don’t have a house.

20) A lover of Japanese food. Uni is my favorite.
21) Doesn’t want to get married cause I still want to live with my whole family. I still want to be spoiled as a daughter.
22) Want to have my own house when I get married.

Posted by HoWeiSek | Awesome,Food From Home,Food Review,My Musing | Monday 20 April 2009 8:29 pm

They say .. to keep a man’s heart is thru’ his tummy..but as a mummy, we all know it is more important to keep the kid’s heart.  Therefore, like it or not, as mummy .. we have to learn how to cook not only delicious food.. but nutritious one too.

A mother’s love is unconditional like Chu Yee .. who cooked this for her daughter.. who came home from Birmingham.

Hi Jan,

Attached are 2 pictures for your blog.  I cooked these 2 dishes for my daughter when she came home from Birmingham for her holidays last year.   Loved to see her enjoying my food. Haha!

FIY I will be going to visit her next month. So you can imagine I will be busy cooking all her favourite dished as I will there for a month. Meanwhile I will continue to click to your blog.  It very interesting and keep me busy during the day.  Thank you for uploading all those interesting TV shows.

God Bless you, your Ang Moh and little Chloe. Bye!

Warmest Regards

Chu Yee

The BKT that i’m used to .. is more herbie type.  Is this the same.. CY..??   Can you share the recipe..?? and where are you from..?? i  know where your daughter is..  but I donch know if you are in Asia or in UK too..??

For more ooomp add a crush stalk of lemon grass and 1 piece of lemon leaf (daun perut limau). Lower the fire and simmer until chicken is well cook. Finally add 2 table spoons tomato sauce, salt and sugar to taste. Happy cooking….

Donut Time

Posted by HoWeiSek | Cakes/Desserts,Canadian,My Musing | Sunday 19 April 2009 10:10 pm

Ms Smartie pants is a fussy eater.. but when it comes to chocolate.. and sprinkles.. she is all for it.  She doesn’t get to eat a lot of donut.. and rarely asked for them.  But once in a while, I indulged her.. but only encourage her to eat the top where the chocolate and sprinkles are.  Afterall, why force her to finish it.. just because right..?

The area behind Chloe is at the store.  In every store that we have had.. there is a place for Chloe to play at our store.  With tv, sofa.. and a small writing table and lots of toys.  We don’t make $10K every month .. like some “pro-blogger” in Asia, announces every couple of week .. “maluration” but we definitely can afford a makeshift living room for our kid and we donch live with our in-laws – although they do have a 100 acres of land.

Does your kid .. or even yourself eat lots of donut..?? Tim Horton is pretty much the donut place here in Canada.. and no one wants coffee from elsewhere except Tim’s.  Starbucks don’t do well here in Canada.. and Second Cup is ok.. but darn ex .. that is why .. ppl still go for medium 1 cream.  What about you ..?? what do you take .. in your favorite coffee shop..??  I’ll give up all the Tim’s coffee and donut for teh tarik from the mamak store .. and yakun.

Assam Fish From Cynthia

Posted by HoWeiSek | Around The World,Awesome,Cooking,Food From Home,Seafood | Monday 13 April 2009 7:33 pm

I have been meaning to cook this assam fish paste that was sent by Barb from a long time ago.. but was contemplating what fish to use.  You see we donch have the kinda fish here .. that i’m used to eating at home.  Salmon is fairly expensive here.. about $4 a small little piece.  But now that Cynthia had experimented with it.. i am gonna give it a try too .. because I love assam fish.  Thanks.. Cynthia.

I tried making assam fish using salmon and they are good. They assam got ride of the salmon fishy smell. Marinate for 1 hour and bake at 190C for 45 minutes and its done. I also added in some lettuce at the final 5 minutes since I dont have lady fingers and tomato. I’ve attached some pictures. I can get the assam paste for you if you want. It’s Malaysian product.

If i cook them.. the assam fish soup would be all over the rice soaking it good.. hehehhehehe!!!  yer know what.. ???  i only started loving spicy stuff after coming to Canada.

This is what was used .. and i can tell you that this brand .. is pretty good.  I tried other stuff from this brand .. from the goodness of blogging friends here.  You know who you are.. and thank you again.  Thank you …Cynthia.. for sharing this with us.  Can you tell us where you are now..?? in asia.. ?? or in the west..??

My Birthday

Posted by HoWeiSek | Amusing/Bizarre,Awesome,Food Bloggies,My Musing | Thursday 9 April 2009 11:37 am

Yes.. it was my birthday yesterday.. and no matter who you are.. birthdays are related to food.  But for a food blogger.. you would know that the spouse would have to give you something different.. and something.. that foodies like myself will appreciate.  So at midnite on the 8th.. the “ang moh” said .. happy birthday.. and gave me some frozen smoked salmon.. muahahhahahaha!!!!  being together .. for 9 yrs physically and another 6 online certainly tells you .. the “ang moh” knows me pretty well.  Can’t complain about that eh.

So after sending the brat to school, the “ang moh” whipped this one out.. and gave it to me.  Pretty sweet eh..???

And this was the envelope.  So yes.. the “ang moh” thinks that all Asian women are like myself – can get crazy if we want to.  Now tell me he is wrong..???!!!??  i for one .. am not gonna deny it .. because i can get quite crazy.. if i want to.

Now ain’t that sweet..!!!  actually truth be told.. he is the one putting up with me.  I’m not the best partner.. because i’ve so many flaws.  Not the best cook.. not the best mother.. not the best of anything and in poor health.

At noon time, the “ang moh” went to pick the brat up from school.. and they went to get this .. yummy..!!! diabetic.. but still ate a small piece of cake.

And a balloon from the brat which she claimed it for herself.. and then said we can share it later during the day.  Of course, i had lots of wishes from friends .. on facebook.. and of course the folks here .. and most importantly ..ppl who had been visiting my blogs.. and who had become friends.. some anyways.. good friends.  I’m grateful for these ppl .. because they are my reassurance.. that there are good folks out there.. who are genuine.. and worth my time.  Thank you all for making my birthday a GREAT one..!!

PS:  Oh..  “ang moh” gave me a massage chair.. not the Osim type ok.. here in Canada.. no Osim type of massage chairs – well not in Atlantic Canada anyways.  The brat gave me a toothbrush and a toothpaste.. muahahahhaa!!!  good and practical gifts.
