baking

Chloe had been asking to bake with her grammie for a long time – finally – we managed to get Grammie and Chloe together for a baking session last Sunday.  See .. Chloe was all up for it… while Grammie prepares the things.. she tries and help as much as she can.

baking1

All eager and ready .. but also sporting enough to let mummy take pictures.

baking2

Ok..!! so the flour goes in first..! grammie is giving her all the hands on she wants.

baking4

So into the bowl  we go.

baking6

So the coco .. and sugar.. and something else.. i think miracle whip.

baking7

So some stirring.. and trying not to stir everything outta the bowl.

baking8

Heheheh!! she didn’t dirty herself.. it was bad mummy .. who got some chocolate powder onto her face.. muahahah!!! she didn’t like it.. at first.. till her daddy said .. that’s what baking is all about.

baking9

All ready to go into the oven..  and she was helping out too.

baking10

40 mins later.. the cake was baked – but it’s not done yet.. it still has to cool – so what do you think chloe’s cake turned out to be..?? was it chocolate frosting..??  was it..?? vanilla..?? or green frosting..???   check back later eh.

It’s that time of the year again and of course, Grampie need to make some special pumpkin for Chloe and I.  A pumpkin with our names on it.  This wasn’t craved after the pumpkin is big, this was craved in .. before it become big.  Pretty special eh.

jan

And this is mine.. !! whoo hoo..!!!  i feel so special  – this sits outside our house to welcome the Halloween at the end of the month.

Rodd Colony Restaurant

colony

We used to love eating at the Rodd Colony before Chloe was born.. in fact.. i think we eat there every week.  So since it was Sunday yesterday.. and i didn’t wanna cook.. i thought we would revisit .. the Rodd Colony Restaurant.. this time with Chloe.  But don’t get me wrong.. we had gone back .. after Chloe was born.. but one time.. they took so long to come serve us.. and another time..  we didn’t see anything special we wanted to eat.  Plus one don’t need to get a new tuxedo to eat there.. even though it is a hotel.

colony1

So we ordered our food.. and had a hard time deciding.. but they also do have a kid’s menu.

colony2

So here.. father and daughter.. taking the “must have” picture for eating out.

colony3

The buns came first.. after liek 10 minutes.. but i was dying for a coffee… but when the coffee did come.. it was a weak coffee. The buns were alright.. but nothing spectacular.

colony4

I ordered the day special.. it was a chicken burger.  The chicken stips weren’t bad.. but as you can see.. it’s a glorified chicken burger from Macdonalds – but a lot more expensive.. muahahaha!!!  I couldn’t finished the bun.. and only add one side of it.  But it’s was definitely less greasier than Jungle Jims – that’s for sure.

colony5

The brat had fish and chips.. but never touched the fish .. at all..!! i took a small bite.. and realized it was because it was not fresh.

colony6

The “ang moh” .. had a corn chowder.. that he thought he remembered it was good.. but alas.. the bowl of soup .. $5.00 no sides..  and not very nice.  Full of potatoes no corn wor.. muahahhaha!!!

colony7

The side of onion rings at $4.95 .. and we didn’t even finished it.. because it was way too oily.

colony8

The Colony is right across the ferry terminal.. and it’s one of the best location for tourists.. but food is really a lot to be desired.  We paid like $28 + tax for the meal.. and i doubt we would go back anytime soon.

colony9

The outdoor patio is not open now..  but during the summer.. you can see a few ppl if the weather was good.  But as you know.. we rarely  have very good weather.. here.

colony10

The Colony looks really cozy.. but it had a musky smell to the dining room.. i think the hotel is quite old.

Mooncake

mooncake

Guess what i had for dessert today..??  yes..! mooncake..!!!  why such a small piece..  ??? firstly i diabetic mah.. so can only eat very little.. and secondly ..  Mr Zhu who gave them to me.. didn’t have a lot himself.  But he had gotten his sister who lives in Toronto to send some more.. so he would give me more.  You all know how generous Mr Zhu is right..?? so i’m sure i will be getting more.  So donch you all waste money to send me some.  Lina – Chloe’s Kai Mah already offered to send me some.. but i had said no.. because i know.. Mr Zhu would be getting me some.. and some blogging friends from this part would be too.  So how was the mooncake..?? yummy..!!! even chloe had 2 bites outta it.  I never used to like mooncake.. because i deemed them as unhealthy.. too sweet.. and too fattening.. but when you migrate to “ang moh” land.. and can’t have it.. or can’t have the varieties you can get at home.. well, you take whatever comes to you ..  :)

Healthy Dinner

dinner

So what you think .. ?? healthy dinner or not..?? My dinner consisted of leftovers from this morning .. and the day before.  The “woodear” were from the steamed herbal chicken.. and the broccoli was from lunch.. when we had plain noodles with broccoli and beef on the side… and chicken were from the quarter chicken we had bought yesterday too.   But the dietitian said.. i had to eat .. very little starch .. and lots of vegies.. and very little meat – but i love meals like that.. because they are things i love.. and i think i can eat these everyday too.  What about you..??

Cheese Croissant With Chicken Salad

cheese

Like many of you already know..  the lunch or meal part for me here in Canada.. or rather in this town can be quite challenging.  If i do not cook my own lunch or order food from Mr Zhu’s chinese restaurant across the road from us – i have to really think hard what i want to eat.  Many a times, I would end up eating something outta convenience.. and you know what happens when one does that eh..??  UNHEALTHY is the word.

cheese1

I haven’t had cheese croissant for a long time.. because they didn’t have it huge enough to make sandwiches for the longest time.  So when i saw them today .. i just had to have to have it.  One thing that didn’t make it perfect was .. they cannot toast the croissant now.. because it catches on fire.. muahhahahaha!!!  but it’s true.. when we do it at home.. on our toaster.. we have to watch it.. else it catches on fire too.   The sandwich cost about $4.25+ tax . i think.. donch quote me…. because i usually give $10 .. and never count the change.  It was alright..  but mayo .. can lighten up a bit eh.

As you all know  – Chloe is attending a new school this year and i’m pleased to report that she is enjoying school tremendously as compared to last year *touch wood*.  And like any parents, we want to support the school that our child is in.. and it is that time of the year again .. where we as parents .. can take this opportunity to help raise funds for the school.

For every set of Glass Angel Gift Sets that a student sells, the school will receive $4.42.  This is an excellent opportunity to help raise money tht will help to support special events and programs at the school throughout the year.   The Glass Angel Gift Sets are at $10 a piece .. and it would be a great Christmas gift for a friend.   I only have a week to collate the donation for the school, so i’m asking for those who would love to help Chloe in her mission to raise fund for her school to donate generously.  Here, I thank you in advance – and I will make arrangement with you .. to have them mail out to you.  Thank you very much for your generosity.

PS :  Please leave a comment for special instruction on how to donate.  We don’t want paypal to take a percentage of the donation.  Thanks !

PPS:  Do not feel obligated to help with the fundraising – please do not feel you need to order just because.
