The postman told me I must be very special – because I received the most parcels from all over the world.  As I typed right now – I have yet to collect another one from the post office.  I don’t know who sent me another present but it’s quite overwhelming when one keeps receiving and not the one giving.  Blogging friends from all over the world had been sending me care packages for years now – and this one is from Netherland – and I’m sure you all are no stranger to her because HN is the sweetest mom you can ever meet online.

Packages of noodles for Chloe as you can see here.

And a lovely, lovely ceramic doll from Netherland – so cute! chloe claimed it already – HN – hahhaha!!

hn3

All sorts of noodles from Veggie Kids – i bet they are a lot healthier – HN said I can cook it like the normal kind of noodles – i haven’t tried it yet but i’m dying to let chloe try them.   There is also a photo of HN’s kids – Sethy & Sophia – cute and most charming kids of hers.  Thank you .. HN..!! and thanks to your hubby for mailing it out for me – i know.. how we all depend on our hubs .. because we are not in our homeland.

2 weeks ago, a huge package came thru’ Fedex for me – a package from home – one that i wasn’t expecting at all.  Dear Alice and online friend from home – sent me one like this last year but this year – the box was bigger with more food from home.  But not only were there food – there were lots of other stuff for me and Chloe as well.  Alice is someone I met online and never asked for anything in return for the things she sent me.  We chat on msn whenever I am free but she never imposed on me – knowing that I’m busy. I’m grateful for good friends that I’ve met in all my years of blogging – I don’t know how to thank folks like Alice – I’m forever indebted to her for her kindness and unconditional friendship.

Corn Bread Birthday Cake

cornbread

While everyone has a normal birthday cake for their birthday – i had a special one – hahahha!!! yes – mine was a corn bread birthday cake made by Chloe’s grammie.  Yes! i loved corn bread and because I can’t find them here – or rather – the ones that tasted like home – from Kenny Roger’s, therefore, Chloe’s grammie made this corn bread for me and it sure came as a surprise.  But pretty thoughtful because you know i wouldn’t eat cake because i am a diabetic.  It was quite amusing but i was truly touched – it was a thoughtful gift – something i would always remember.  The corn bread was really good and if you want the recipe – I can post it up here – when i get it.  According to Chloe’s grammie it is pretty easy to bake – i might just find some ambition to bake one myself – wished i could share some with you all.

hometreats

I don’t know if there is an English name for Hae Bee Hiam roll but this is a treat from Singapore – a kinda mini spring roll – that is deep fried with dried shrimps and chilli.  I haven’t eaten this like in 13 yrs – because back then I didn’t like spicy nor fried stuff.  But when I saw this in the box of goodies that Alice had sent from Singapore – I couldn’t believed my eyes.  I was coughing so bad .. yet i had to open them and taste it.  Boy! it sure brought back lots and lots of memories and of course I was so touched.   You don’t know what Hae Bee Hiam is..??  The below is what it looked like inside.

Happy Easter

easter

Happy belated Easter everyone..!  so did the Easter Bunny bring you lots of candies..???  We had plenty for this Easter but you have to know that we had 4 Easter hunts with Chloe.  This Easter loot was for our dear friend’s daughter – Sarah.  But of course, Sarah’s mom already came by before Easter and gave Chloe a even bigger loot with coloring books, stickers and toys – of course lots of chocolates.

We on the other hand didn’t have time for a luxury and could only shop for candies – so Chloe’s classmates had lots of chocolates, cakes and her friends had a bagful of chocolate like the one above.   This year we are a lot active since Chloe is a lot older and she is into the hunt big time.  We had a celebration at Chloe’s school and then at the local car dealer and a hunt at the church – followed by a hunt at our own home and of course her grandparents.  So how was your Easter..??

Chloe at the Easter Hunt with her friends in church – like Adele said – it was our yearly ritual now.  Chloe so enjoyed it but this year there were no lucky draw but treat bags for everyone on top of the eggs they collected.

A Cake Moment

Posted by HoWeiSek | Amusing/Bizarre,Cakes/Desserts,Canadian,My Musing | Friday 2 April 2010 10:44 am

cake

Father and daughter having a cake moment.  Chloe was invited to a birthday party last weekend – and like usual – I can’t eat the cake because it would mean that i have to give up on the certain stuff i know that i would enjoy instead of a piece of cake.  As a diabetic – I have to make my choice wisely and only eat those that I really wanna eat unlike PB – he can eat a whole day’s worth of chocolate and candies.. and still his blood sugar is great!  JEALOUS!!!    HATE HIM FOR THAT!! Muahahahaha!!!

But don’t get me wrong – i can eat the cake if i wanted to – a small portion – not too, too much but i usually choose not to – because i didn’t wanna start the habit of eating cakes all the time – since we do get invited to parties a lot.   Chloe loves eating the frosting mostly – she leaves the cake alone after eating the frosting.  What about you?  how much cake do you eat every week?

Croissant For Lunch

Posted by HoWeiSek | Canadian,Fast Food,My Musing,Useful Links | Thursday 1 April 2010 10:23 am

croissant

I was having lunch with a friend in town to talk about how I can sell my timeshare but we didn’t know where to eat because as you all know – darn limited things to eat.  We ended up in Tim Hortons because we haven’t had a croissant sandwich for a long time.   I’ve always loved croissant and tried having them at home but they never taste the same at home – or is it just me?   I usually order the cheese croissant because they are slightly bigger than the normal croissant but today they didn’t have any – so i had no choice.  Lunch was good – now if only they would do me the half egg salad and half chicken – i would have been the happiest woman – unfortunately, they said ” nope – can’t do that”  – what a bummer eh..!

So here I am thinking – the sandwiches cost the same – so why is it so hard to have one scoop of chicken salad and one scoop of egg salad?  I mean it is all there right – ready made – what is the logic of not going the extra mile for a customer – and a loyal one at that.  Hmmm..!   what’s your take on it?  way too busy?  I made sure i only make such a request when they are not busy.  So can’t use that excuse eh.
