turkey

Happy Turkey Day everyone!  I know I’m a little late – we celebrated Turkey Day yesterday at PB’s parents and of course we had turkey !  what else eh?  As you can see turkey was huge – we had lots to eat – but I was also popping tylenol because I pulled a muscle while sleeping!  and haven’t been sleeping well for a week now because of it.  Darn!

PB came down with a cold today !  so you can imagine – we ain’t feeling the best this Turkey day – but we had lots of sweets and cakes – and lots of veggies.    We celebrate Turkey Day a month earlier than our US friends – so don’t worry for those who has friends in US – you can still wish them a month later.

Time For A Short Break

Posted by HoWeiSek | My Musing,The Other Half,Useful Links,Useful Tips,Vacation | Saturday 9 October 2010 4:28 pm

break

Unlike Jen from Passion 4 Food who just came back from a cruise -  the Royal Caribbean , we are not as blessed as her to do the same.  As much as I would love to go on a cruise vacation – the only short break that I could take would be to go to the city for a day or two.  I’m sure you all know that we didn’t get to go anywhere this summer – due to having a store – when you own your own business – you have to make some sacrifices I guess.

So next week – God forbid – there should be another hurricane – we will head up to Halifax and then PB said that the cruise will have to be after Christmas.  I know he meant well – and if we could find someone reliable to man the store – he would definitely go – but if we can’t then I will have to take a rain check eh.  So yes – wish us luck – that we can have some real sushi and some dim sum too!  woohoo!!

Organic Strawberries

strawberries

Chloe loves her strawberries and when we find some grown by our local farmers  - we usually buy them.  They are extremely sweet and Chloe eats them all if you let her but we only give her 5 at a time.  I’m glad even though she doesn’t eat much veggies she eats lots of fruits.  At this moment – she is into apple.  What about your kids ?  what are they in season for?  Oh – Chloe loves lychees too – but i only managed to get a few for her – the last time they had them at Sobeys – so sad eh. But not all fruits are the same – apparently – the bananas does have a lot of calories – so I’m slowing down on the banana.

Macintosh Apples For Thanksgiving

I had asked Chloe’s grammie – if she would asked the apple lady who owns the apple farm – if she would donate some apples – for Chloe’s school Fall Fair.  But Grammie thought it was soon – so she came in with the apples on Tuesday.  I doubt the apples would last till the middle of the month – so we brought the apples in for Chloe’s class for Thanksgiving instead.  I guess we would just have to go and get some more apples in the middle of the month – for the fall fair.  I hope Chloe’s class enjoys the apple today – they are having Thanksgiving dinner at school – the teachers are cooking up a storm for them.

Baby Shower Food

babyshower

I was invited for a baby shower last week and for once – I ate the food at a party.  Usually I already have my food – but the food looked so yummy!  i just have to have some.   I love this fruit punch – real frozen fruit to keep the drink cold but won`t dilute the drink.  How clever eh!

babyshower1

There were 2 kinds of sandwiches – both types I liked a lot – chicken and egg salad – so I ate both –  but I had the eggs first – it was yummy! so was the chicken.  You see how cleverly – the friend`s sister made the sandwich?  2 colors – with 2 different types of bread – very clever – I learned something new today.

babyshower2

Crackers, cheese and pepperoni – yummy! i had some too!

babyshower3

Two boxes of veggie trays – i had carrots and celery sticks.

babyshower5

Banana cake!! yummy!!!  i have to go get some soon – they were really good.

babyshower4

Home made cake – I didn’t have any – but PB and Chloe did – and I know it was yummy.  The host also had lots of chips and chocolate during the baby shower – it was definitely a good baby shower.  We had games and some good laughs – the children had fun too.

Pork Floss In Pineapple Rice

Posted by HoWeiSek | Awesome,Food From Home,Food Review,Friendship,My Musing | Tuesday 5 October 2010 10:59 am

porkfloss

You know when you are so far from home – you try to re-create some food from home and I won`t be able to do it without the generosity of so many online friends and friends from home.  Jenn from Toronto had specially packed a packet of pork floss for me – the last time she sent me a 10 Kg box of food – I`m grateful – because she was so thoughtful and send me a little of everything that she thinks I missed eating.   So the other day when I cooked some pineapple rice – i put in some pork floss just like the ones from home – where we have the pineapple rice in the pineapple.  Well, although I didn`t buy a whole pineapple to do it that way – hahah!  well, maybe next time eh.

Healthy Breakfast

hashbrown

We try as much as possible to feed Chloe with healthy food and all of a sudden – she wanted hash brown – so on days when she doesn’t have school – we make her some hash brown – but because we want it to be healthy too – we added some bananas to it.

hashbrown1

I too decided to have a hasbrown – with bananas – before – a hash brown isn’t enough – i had to have a sausage muffin too – but now that I know that a hash brown alone is 120 calories – i figured i’ll have half a banana to fill myself up.  Now I don’t feel so guilty eating a hash brown. haha!

Healthy Dessert For Kids

Posted by HoWeiSek | Cakes/Desserts,Frozen Food,My Musing,The Brat | Friday 1 October 2010 1:43 pm

yogurt

When you have a kid who loves her ice cream – what do you do?  you buy yogurt ice cream and add real fruits on your own – to make it a healthy dessert.  Chloe doesn’t know any difference – she thinks they are real ice cream and she is tickled pink – when she gets a treat like this one.  So if you want your kids to have a healthy treat – try yogurt ice cream with real fruits – I love it myself – even though I can’t eat a lot of it.
