Bak Kut Teh For Chinese New Year

So everyone is asking what I had for Chinese New Year’s day – well  – I had Bak Kut Teh – because we had to open our store on that day – also there was a snow storm here during the first day of Chinese New Year.  And the programmable cooker works like the old one – just that now I don’t have to be worried about overcooking the food.  But what suxs about the programmable cooker is – it turns itself off – from “warm” after 14 hours – so if you can’t finish your food within the 14hrs – you have to re-program it – but most people won’t have any trouble as the entire family would eat it, wherelse – it’s only me and chloe eating the entire pot of Bak Kut Teh – so sometimes – it takes a few days.

And yes – you there is a safety lock on it – which means you can cook and carry it to somewhere else – if you are having a potluck.

Programmable Slow Cooker

I have been wanting to buy this for a lonnnngg time – but I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on any gadgets – even though I know that I would benefit from it.  But a programmable slow cooker was definitely in my agenda – and to – buy list.  So when by fluke – I saw it go on sale – I grabbed it.  No more excuses for not cooking a meal for the kid – and buy take outs.   And the first meal I cooked in it was my Chinese New Year dinner – can you guess what it is?

A programmable slow cooker is good – because I need not worry about when I need to cook – to time it exactly to the time I have to get home to turn it off.  Also – I don’t want to under cook or over cook our food and risk of getting the house burned down.  Of course, it wouldn’t happened but you never know right – so yes!  it was definitely a good buy at $40 + tax!   Plus I do like to slow cook my food – they are way more nutritious.

Ta – da ! my new slow cooker!

You all know how i craved for veggies right? especially when you have a spouse and a kid who doesn’t like greens.  So when I saw this on sale for $1 – frozen of course – i had to get some to try and lo and behold – they were pretty awesome for $1 !!  but instead of having to steam them – I nuke them for a few minutes and I had veggies to eat – and they were small portion enough that I don’t feel like I am wasting them if i couldn’t finished it.   The things one have to do – in “ang moh” land!

Dim Sum

dimsum

I have been having dim sum for a few days now – albeit frozen ones – they were still pretty good.  Lynette a good friend from here – was in the city again and brought me food again.  She had been going up to Halifax a few times already and each time – she would offer to bring me food from the Asian grocery store up there – now isn’t she awesome or what?  good people/friend are hard to come by – and when you find one – you make sure you keep them and hold them close to you.  Lynette and her children are always so awesome to us – and Chloe loves her shiny Josh – it’s amazing – I see a long lasting friendship between the two kids and a full tummy for mummy!
