Summer is finally here and of course, we can’t wait to party at our cottage.  We are having a margarita party with my girlfriends and I can’t wait to show off my  Margarita Glasses – Customized by Glass With a Twist  .  I loved that we can have garden parties anytime we want because of having a cottage by the beach.  Our cottage is so cozy and even though we’ve spent hours decorating it , we still feel that having friends and family over is the best thing one can do at the cottage.

The kids can also have their own margarita party but of course without the alcohol but they definitely can use our margarita glasses and play pretty like they are adults too.  A little more to pay to personalize the margarita glasses but so many years of fun for both the adults and kids.  You can choose the fonts you want and what you want to print on the glasses and of course, the more you order, the less it will cost you.  I would get 2 dozen if you asked me because you want to make sure that everyone has a very special margarita glass.  No one wants to get left out of the fun.

Tuesday Pasta Night At Boston Pizza

Posted by mamabok | Awesome,Canadian,Food Review,My Musing,Pasta,Shopping | Monday 20 July 2015 9:44 pm

019

I’ve never had pasta on Tuesday nights at Boston Pizza before and we finally made it for pasta night.  We had wanted to order our ordinary pasta but the waitress had recommended that we order the ones for pasta night because they were only $10 each.   So we figured we would.  I ordered the spaghetti with their famous meatballs.  And as you can see here , the pasta were aplenty.  I could hardly finish half of it , and only had 2 meatballs.  So unless you have a huge appetite, I don’t encourage you to order such because I for one hate to waste food and I don’t like leftovers , so what a waste.

020

My g/f had the jambalaya and it was huge too but at least she managed to finish a lot of it and doggie back home the rest but it was a lot.  So unless you really love pasta, don’t waste food.

021

We of course had to have the cheese cake with some coffee to end the evening.

One can find all kinds of hot deals here and prices cuts on so many awesome music gear.

Pho @ I Love Pho

Posted by mamabok | Awesome,Food From Home,Food Review,FoodBuzz,My Musing | Saturday 6 June 2015 11:17 am

011

So we were up in the city during the weekend and I had to try some Pho of course.  But since PB and Chloe didn’t wanna eat the same as I , I ordered a take out from I Love Pho located at Bedford Highway.  It was a small restaurant but very cozy and the girl who took my order was really nice.  I would definitely go back and eat there while the food is nice and in a bowl coz’ it was hard to eat in a take out bowl as they gave me a lot of food.

I ordered the Pho with everything in eat , stripes , beef and beef balls.  The noodles were al – dente and the soup were placed separately in case you lived a long drive away.  I was hoping the soup would be more robust but it wasn’t , probably because I wasn’t dining in and couldn’t add in all the condiments that they had provided.

Overall, I do loved it , I even went back after my dinner to get some Vietnamese desserts and it was so yummy !  you will see me again I Love Pho.

Of late I’ve been craving for curry.  Yes, spicy curry if possible.  So I went to our good old neighborhood restaurant  – the New Century on Main Street to ask if they could do some rice with curry beef for me.  And they said yes!  yummy !  loved the fresh veggies as well as the tender beef , so this was my simple lunch for today.  Those who wants authentic Chinese , check the New Century Restaurant on Main Street – they not only do good food, they are very accommodating.

I Had Dim Sum !

Posted by mamabok | Awesome,Breakfast,Chinese,Food From Home,Food Review,FoodBuzz | Monday 25 May 2015 12:09 pm

015

Yes !  I had dim sum from my favorite place – Great Wall in downtown Halifax.  PB was so sweet and made sure we go for dim sum even though we just had breakfast.  Gotta love the man !

016

But since it was only the 3 of us, we didn’t order as much.  We had the glutinous rice and century egg congee.

017

Har gow – with a huge shrimp inside the har gow.

018

BBQ pork buns

019

Egg tarts.

020

And my favorite carrot cake.  Dim sum was like $40 something bucks but definitely so filling and we didn’t even finish everything , we had to ask for a doggy bag. Service was very good too, the boss came over to serve us.

Fried Ice Cream

Actually, I didn’t get fried ice cream, I got some fried bananas with ice cream but they do have fried ice cream at the Honey Bee’s ice cream place in Dayton.  And the fried banana ice cream was massive, it takes at least 2 person to finish it and even 3 would be just nice in my humble opinion.  Only for $6, you can choose your toppings from chocolate to blueberries and as you can see , we had the blueberries.  Yummy yummy in my tummy !  this summer, check out Honey Bee ice cream at Dayton if you are in town.

Food Events In The City

Attended a food event in the city during the weekend as we were invited to the event by some of the organizers there.  It was a very popular event as you can see and I like the event venue as it was in the middle of the city with lots of parking.  The event hall was packed and brightly lit with  myLED High Bay lights  I was told.

With such a big event hall, using these LED lights is really smart as they  not only save money on utility bills cine they are energy efficient.  And since they are long lasting, you won’t need to get them changed so often, therefore it’s  maintenance efficient as well.

I like the fact that even with the event hall so bright and nicely lit, we didn’t feel like hot at all.  Another plus for using LED high Bay lights I have to say , for most events that I’ve been too , are just so unbearable because of the heat the lights were giving out.

I did enjoy the event , despite the fact that there were tons of people around , thanks to a cool event hall – I cannot stress how important it is to make event goers like us stay a bit longer to have a nice, cool event hall.

Japanese Food With Karaoke

Posted by mamabok | Awesome,Entertainment,Food Review,FoodBuzz,My Musing,Shopping,Useful Links,Useful Tips | Saturday 7 March 2015 3:21 pm

016

We went to the Japanese restaurant in Little Brook again but this time, Karaoke was on our mind.  If  you didn’t know by now, the Japanese restaurant has a Karaoke room.  Who doesn’t like singing around this area right?  especially us Asians.  I was told that I can get a good entertainment set here, so  Mail your order today!  if you love singing a lot and want your home to have some entertainment.

023

It was a very busy night at the restaurant even though we weren’t expecting it to be that busy.  Jessica had some spicy miso soup to start with and I had the ordinary kind of miso soup.

024

Lots of seaweeds and tofu , unlike some Japanese restaurant that can be quite stingy when it comes to tofu and seaweed.

025

I ordered some mixed tempura and my g/f ordered a traditional little brook roll and I ordered something else as you can see here.

026 (1)

027

The mixed tempura only had one shrimp, so it wasn’t enough for all of us of course, we had 2 adults and 2 kids with us.

028

Some soft shell crab for appetizer , and it was yums !

029

And my g/f ordered another type of roll but this one was really spicy.  Luckily for us, we were going for Karaoke, so we waited to eat it a little later with our Karaoke session.  For those who loved singing , check out the Japanese restaurant at little brook.

My simple lunch series #6 is lunch at home because I had a sick kid.  So a curry noodles from the Penang White Curry Noodles all the way from Toronto was what I had.  So simple to cook and just nice for a cold day.  You can put in anything you want , of course, I had veggies, some chicken and a hard boil egg to go with my noodles.  So cheap, so easy to cook and so gooddddd!

Continuing with my Simple Lunch Series, here is some rice with mixed veggies and some shrimp and garlicky pork ribs for just $8 at the New Century Restaurant.  I don’t like eating so much rice and had only asked ofr 2 pieces of pork ribs but they gave me more.  The Zhu’s are really good to their customers.

Food For A Cold Winter Night

Posted by mamabok | Awesome,Chinese,Food From Home,Food Review,FoodBuzz,My Musing | Sunday 15 February 2015 1:05 pm

008

Comfort food from home on a cold winter night like this really warms not only the tummy but the heart as well.  The paste was sent from home and this is the Malaysian version of Hokkien Noodles with spicy chilli and prawn stock.  I put in some veggies as well and shrimp and an egg to make the bowl of noodles a meal by itself.  Because of how oily it is, I can’t eat more than a bowl but it was definitely yummy to the max.

Simple Lunch Series #4

001

Complimentary lotus roots soup came with my lunch today, and it was priceless.  I would have paid anything for this bowl of soup and I had 2 bowls of it.  I kept one for dinner of course.  Soup was so goooodddd!

004

My lunch was fried noodles, with brocolli , fish tofu and mushroom.  Yummy to the max, the noodles were too much for me.  Loved my mushrooms, fish tofu, bean sprouts as well as broccoli.

My simple lunch today with rice are these squids from Su Lee & shrimps from the Zhu’s – how much ?  didn’t cost me a cent.  I provided the chilli sauce from home, some sambal paste from Tean’s and the Zhu’s cooked them up for me for lunch.  It was so yummy!  I had leftover to go with my supper as well.

Our Asian community might be small here but we do look out for each other.

It`s pretty awesome to have foodies from all over the world as your friends.  And yes, I`m super blessed to have friends from all over the world send me food because they know I can`t buy the food over here in Yarmouth.  So every month , I do get care packages from friends and family from all over the world because they must like me . heheh!

016

I have some teh tarik from home, some lychee jello for chloe .

017

And of course, some Assam fish paste for my assam fish curry.  I also learned a new way to cook my assam curry and recently I`ve been experimenting more with my food.  And yes, my kid and I are totally blessed with so many people to love us and take care of us.

Curry Shrimp With Veggies

Posted by mamabok | Awesome,Canadian,Chinese,Food From Home,Food Review,My Musing | Saturday 25 October 2014 10:07 pm

006

Ì`m sure by now you all know how much I loved spicy food.  And the spicier the better.  So the Zhu`s at the New Century Restaurant tries every which way to help me with my lunch all the time.  So today , I order some shrimp with curry and of course the veggies with some rice.  Not too much rice but this was definitely spicy !!!  good food !  yums!

PS  :  Be nice to the restaurant owners and you can get all kind of food. But of course, don`t be an asshole of an owner , like some people in some restaurant that we all know, else ppl will just stop eating at your place.  If you can`t take constructive criticism than that will be your downfall. Your lost not mine – plenty of restaurants to eat from.

Donut Galore

Posted by mamabok | Awesome,Baking,Cakes/Desserts,My Musing | Monday 6 October 2014 2:18 pm

003

I don’t eat donuts because I’m diabetic but it doesn’t mean that other people cannot enjoy it especially my in – laws and my kid.  PB didn’t eat any as well, I don’t know why he didn’t want any, I guess he likes his dad’s fudge a lot better.  But if you are in Canada and there is a Tim Hortons, you can have your fill of all kinds of donuts.  I don’t know if they are comparable to Krispy Kreme but they are definitely not bad at all.  For a dozen, one only needs to fork out less than $8.00 if I am not wrong.  But I do like my Tim’s coffee a lot and must have at least one a day.

Chloe loves the chocolate glazed donut or the double chocolate with sprinkles and there is the boston creme donut, maple donut , coconut creme, lemon and a lot more different flavor to choose from.  Unfortunately, for me they are all very, very sweet and I cannot eat them.  If I weren’t diabetic,  you will probably see me stuff my face with them.  Tim Hortons donut are good gifts to bring when visiting a friend or relative.

Butter Curry Chicken From Farmer’s Market

Posted by mamabok | Awesome,Food From Home,Food Review,Indian,My Musing | Saturday 4 October 2014 1:56 pm

001

I wanted something different for lunch on the weekend and when I saw that the Farmer’s market had butter chicken, I had to get some.  But of course, it was too early for lunch, so it was kept in silver foil for a few hours , thus it was kinda mushy after awhile.  The rice and butter chicken was still warm when I ate it at 2.30pm and it was pretty good.  The next time, I would separate the butter chicken and rice, so that the rice wouldn’t be so mushy.

I do like the butter chicken but it didn’t have the stronger taste that I’m used to and it wasn’t as spicy as I liked it.  I prefer my butter chicken with chunks of chicken  and since I use jasmine rice for my own butter chicken, I didn’t smell any jasmine in the one that I bought at the Farmer’s Market.  But it was overall, a good lunch for $6.50 tax included.  Would I get it again?  definitely !
