Sorry, I haven’t been showing you all the food I’ve eaten all summer, and don’t you worry, I still eat so well but because we’ve been so busy this summer, I hardly have time for showing off all the good food I ate.

But today, I did have one of the best fish burgers I’ve tasted and it’s from the Red Shed down the hill from where our store is.  Love the fish, it’s lightly breaded and lots of fish as you can see and the bun is nicely toasted and it was so yums!  only $6.00 tax included, one can never go wrong with a fish burger from the Red Shed.

Banana Fried Ice Cream From HoneyBee Ice Cream Parlour

023

So i finally got to try out the banana fried ice cream from Honey Bee’s near the Dayton Food Market and they not only have the fried ice cream, they also have hot dogs and sausage dogs now.

Sorry I didn’t take pictures of the hot dogs and sausage dogs that we had but both were very yummy in taste, although a little bit plain in my opinion.  The banana fried ice cream was really good too and it had 3 bananas , hot fudge and a huge scoop of ice cream and cream on top.  The sausage were $4 each and hotdogs at $3 each.  Definitely, worth a trip to Honey Bee’s , I’m going again really soon.

Shanty’s Appetizer Platter

017

So I had to try the appetizer when the Shanty advertised it on facebook and don’t be fooled by my picture taking skills, it is actually a lot lovelier than it looks and tasted even better.

I’m sure i would loved the samosas and they had lots of potatoes skins with cheese and bacon bits because the Cuban Croquet  items weren’t ready.  But I did get a taste of it and they had offered me more later if I wanted more.  The cost of the platter was at $11.20 tax included but it was a little wait for it which I don’t mind at all because I met a lovely lady at the cafe while waiting for my take out.

The appetizer platter was a lot of potatoes to stomach, i had to leave some for the next day’s lunch.

Wacky Wing Nite @ Jungle Jim’s

Posted by mamabok | Awesome,Canadian,Food Review,Junke Food,My Musing | Wednesday 16 July 2014 7:06 pm

001

In the many years that Jungle Jim’s had been in town, I never went for their Wacky Wings nite because I didn’t think I could eat a lot of wings.  But today, with my kid and a g/f we decided that we should go and see what the hype was about.   For $12.99, one can’t go too wrong right?

002

Since it was the first time that we are doing Wacky Wing nite, we didn’t know how it works.  I’m glad we got our regular waitress and she quickly explained to us and took care of our order.  If you are going for Wing nite, make sure you go early because it was quite a wait for food.  I ordered some pepperoni and chicken wings but for every all you can eat wings , you have to order a drink of like $2.99.  I had an ice lemon tea with my g/f – no sharing and the kid had an apple juice.

003

The kid ordered her own wings for $6.99.

004

While my g/f ordered some thai chicken bites

005

And french fries for the kid.  I actually didn’t want her to have fries.

006

The kid loved the wings and the fries and ate quite a lot of the wings and fries.

007

Opps !  I was wrong, she had pepsi.

009

We had more wings.

008

Garlic baguette , only had 2 pieces as no one wanted them.

011

And here the kid and the g/f is choosing the best wings for themselves.  I also had some garlic baguette and it was quite filling.   Me and the kid’s meal came to $27 + tips , while the g/f’s was about $17 + tips.  Would I go again?  oh for sure but next time with more friends and definitely will be going earlier.

Chickpea Salad From Shanty Cafe

Posted by mamabok | Awesome,Canadian,Food Review,My Musing,Organic,Salads | Thursday 5 June 2014 2:33 pm

014

This chickpea salad was so good – I had to give it a shout out immediately.  Folks from town can get this at the Shanty Cafe located on 6B Central Street.  Friendly service and good food – you cannot go wrong.  But this chickpea salad reminds me of my favorite fatoush salad.

016

I loved that it’s all so well blended and I found some yummy roasted sunflower seeds in it.  A delightful salad with my samosas of course.  My salad was a small one and only cost me $3.00 + tax , if you want a large one it’s $6.00 + tax.  Check it out – it is really good.

Chef #2 @ New Century Restaurant

Posted by mamabok | Awesome,Canadian,Chinese,Food Review,My Musing | Tuesday 3 June 2014 2:48 pm

008

When I don’t know what to eat, I order Chef #2 from the New Century Restaurant and this is half an order only because a whole order would be way too much for me to eat.  Look at how much veggies I’ve got in this fully loaded crispy noodles at the bottom box.   Brocolli , cabbage, water chestnuts, char siew and shrimp plus some carrots for color.  I love the smell of the crispy canton noodles as well.  For $8 – this could be my lunch and supper easily.  Try it yourself and let me know what you think.  New Century Restaurant is located on Main Street, Yarmouth.

Frozen Yogurt

Posted by mamabok | Awesome,Cakes/Desserts,Canadian,Food Review,My Musing | Sunday 20 April 2014 6:58 pm

009

Frozen yogurt in town!!  woohoo! and we are addicted to it after our first try.  There isn’t much flavors to choose from but there are at least 6 right now.  Chocolate, Vanilla, Banana, Lime, Mango and Strawberry.  And between Chloe & I, we’ve tried all the flavors, now what’s most enticing were all the condiments that you can put on top of your frozen yogurt.

010

Look at Chloe’s cup of frozen yogurt, besides fruits she had some M & Ms and gummy worms and sours and hot fudge and sprinkles and chocolate bits.  The prices are not cheap either but it was worth it that’s for sure.  Both kids and adults loved it as far as we can see.  We have been going back every other day thus far.  Frozen yogurt can be found on Starrs Road inside Manda Evelyn’s store.  You can missed it.

Best Korean Food

Posted by mamabok | Awesome,Food From Home,Food Review,Korean | Thursday 20 March 2014 3:18 pm

My sister from another mother makes the best Korean home cooked food – Jap Chae !  it’s a sweet potato noodles with veggies, mushrooms, beef  and all sorts of good stuff.  She makes them so well, so whenever there is a special occasion, I get to eat this yummy Jap Chae.  If you want to have the recipe to make it, check below.  The cooking recipe is adapted from a recipe I collected online.  Try it and let me know what you think.  I’m so hungry now, I think I’m gonna make some tonite.

Ingredients:

  • Sweet Potato noodles
  • 150 grams of beef
  • 1 bunch of spinach
  • 1 medium size carrot
  • 1 medium size onion
  • mushrooms (5 dried shitake mushroomsand 1 package of white mushrooms)
  • 3 cloves of garlic
  • 7-8 green onions
  • sesame oil, soy sauce,  sugar, pepper, and some sesame seed.

Makes 4 servings.

Prepare ingredients :

  1. Soak 5 dried shitake mushrooms in warm water for a few hours until they become soft. Squeeze the water out of them and slice thinly.
  2. Slice a package of white mushrooms (2 cups’ worth).
  3. Cut a carrot into thin matchstick-shaped pieces 5 cm long.
  4. Cut 7 -8 green onions into 7 cm long pieces.
  5. Slice one onion thinly.
  6. Slice 150 grams of beef into thin strips.

Method :

  1. Boil 2 bunches of noodles in boiling water in a big pot for about 3 minutes. When the noodles are soft, drain them and put in a large bowl.
  2. Cut the noodles several times by using scissors and add 1 tbs of soy sauce and 1 tbs of sesame oil. Mix it up and set aside.
*tip: Take one sample and taste it to see whether or not it’s cooked properly. If it feels soft, it’s finished.
  3. In the boiling water, add a bunch of spinach and stir it gently for 1 minute. Then take it out and rinse it in cold water 3 times. Remove any grit or dead leaves thoroughly while rinsing. Squeeze it gently to get the water out, then cut it into 5 cm pieces.
  4. Add ½ tbs soy sauce and ½ tbs sesame oil and mix it and place it onto the large bowl.
*tip: When you drain the hot water from the pot, don’t discard the hot water. Put it back into the pot so you can cook your spinach quickly.
  5. On a heated pan, put a few drops of olive oil and your carrot strips and stir it with a spatula for 30 seconds. Put it into the large bowl (don’t burn it!).
  6. Place a few drops of olive oil on the pan and add your sliced onion. Stir it until the onion looks translucent. Put it into the large bowl with your carrots.
  7. Place a few drops of olive oil on the pan and add the sliced white mushrooms. Stir it for a bit and then put it in the large bowl.
  8. Place a few drops of olive oil on the pan and add your green onions. Stir for 1 minute and put it into the large bowl.
  9. Place a few drops of olive oil on the pan and add your beef strips and your sliced shitake mushrooms. Stir it until it’s cooked well, then add 3 cloves of minced garlic, ½ tbs soy sauce and ½ tbs sugar. Stir for another 30 seconds and then put it into the large bowl.
  10. Add 2 tbs of soy sauce, 3 tbs of sugar, 2 tbs of sesame oil, and 1 ts of ground pepper to the large bowl. Mix all ingredients, then sprinkle 1 tbs of toasted sesame seeds on the top.
  11. Serve with rice and Kimchi, or as a side dish.

Fried Haddock Roe

Posted by mamabok | Awesome,Canadian,Food Review,My Musing,Seafood | Monday 27 January 2014 12:52 pm

I saw some Haddock Roe last week and had wanted to get some to try but my father in law – Budd, had it on the stove when we arrived on Sunday for a visit.  It sure looked good but I didn’t try it but  he said it was very good and fresh.   Haddock Roes like any fish roes are a acquired taste, not everyone love it and it sure doesn’t look very appetizing before cooking them but it is really good.

Fry them up with a little corn flour and it’s ready to be tasted.  Try it if you haven’t.

This is how the haddock roe looks like in the supermarket.

Canadian Supplier For Asian Food

Posted by mamabok | Awesome,Food From Home,Food Review,My Musing,Shopping | Saturday 18 January 2014 3:41 pm

Yes! a Canadian supplier for Asian food in Markham, Toronto! woohoo!!  no worries about not being able to get food from home now.  Well, not all the food that I want but at least some of the food that I’m eating.  Shipping is reasonable and they are very quick with their services.  Wen Ho Of Canada carries the Tean’s group of food that I’m currently eating now.  They also carry the 3-in-1 tea from Aik Cheong and coffee as well.

4 boxes of food delivered within 1 week of ordering, now that’s pretty quick.  I’m sure I will be ordering more food from them.

Scrumptious Lobsters

Posted by mamabok | Awesome,Canadian,Food Review,Friendship,Seafood | Friday 10 January 2014 9:48 pm

Life is so good, we get lobsters from a good friend/customer every now and then or rather everytime I crave for it.  I wouldn’t know how to chop them up of course, so the Zhus not only helped to chop them up but cooked them.  I love ginger fried lobsters with scallions and green onions.

But when you have sambal tumis, you stir fry it quickly another them and eat them like nasi lemak.  It was really good!  this year I think I’m gonna eat more lobster myself than giving it to other people.

Rocking Music @ Local Restaurant

Posted by mamabok | Awesome,Entertainment,Food Review,My Musing,Shopping,Useful Links,Useful Tips | Wednesday 4 December 2013 2:39 pm

We had a birthday celebration to attend last week and a local restaurant had hosted the event for us.  We were very impressed with everything and the  subwoofer at musicians friend  that they had bought.   I’ve always loved good music at a restaurant when we are entertaining and this local restaurant definitely went beyond and above their call of duty to help us make the birthday of a young man really special.   Food was great a well of course and the prices were decent and most importantly we all had a good time.

Butter Chicken @ The Red Shed

Posted by mamabok | Awesome,Food Review,My Musing | Friday 15 November 2013 3:52 pm

Butter chicken is a classic Indian food.  For those who wants to try a little spicy food but not too spicy, butter chicken would be the way to go.  Shane at the Red Shed down on the Water front makes a good meal for only $8 tax included.  Alot of chicken as you can see here and fragrant rice or basmatic rice.  A very good meal indeed, for someone who love spicy food and food from home, this has gotta be the most convenient way to get them.  So don’t forget to give it a try – not very far from our store, a 2 mins walk to the waterfront.

Yarmouth Pub @ Water Street

Posted by mamabok | Awesome,Food Review,My Musing | Monday 28 October 2013 9:57 pm

The Yarmouth Pub down on Water Street is the latest addition to our downtown eatery.  Situated near the waterfront, not too far from Rudder, you can missed it.  The Yarmouth Pub serves food on the first storey of the building and the pub is in the basement.  Good music playing at the pub as we walked up the dining area.

The dining area was nicely furnished and the waitress came immediately to offer us drinks and menu.  The mood was casual and it was warm upstairs on a cool rainy day.

I had ordered the steak because it was so cheap – and done just right!  I loved it !  I had mine with baked potatoes and I was stuffed.

My g/f had fish – haddock baked. It was special of the day and it was less than $10 I think.

It came with a salad and we both had hot lemon tea.  The bill came up to $30 + dollars – and food came promptly.  I would definitely go back and would go to the pub next time for good music and drinks.

Salad With Feta Cheese At The Red Shed

Posted by mamabok | Awesome,Canadian,Food Review,Salads | Friday 25 October 2013 10:51 pm

I’ve always loved a good salad with my meal and the ones at The Red Shed with real feta cheese definitely is a must have when you need a side dish.  The salad is at $3.50 if I am not wrong – and tax included – I like that best and it comes freshly made and taste awesome.  I had some fish cakes with my salad and it was an excellent meal.  Try the salad next time you are at The Red Shed.

More Lobsters

Posted by mamabok | Awesome,My Musing,Seafood | Saturday 28 September 2013 12:00 pm

More lobsters for me this year but I asked for a little box because I already had a lot of lobsters of late.  But this time the Zhu’s made it spicy for me – knowing that I loved the chilli.  heheh!  thanks to Cory for the lobsters and the Zhu’s for cooking it.

Food From Prima Taste

Posted by mamabok | Awesome,Chinese,Food From Home,My Musing,Shopping | Wednesday 25 September 2013 12:01 pm

Food from home !! woohoo!! they just got in today !  and I had been waiting for it for a week now, well, it was a week late but no worries, the supplier gave me a whole box of it for free for being late! woohoo!!! FREE FOOD ! is always good.  Now I can have a Prima Taste party at the Zhu’s.  I had planned it for last week but since the food didn’t come, I had to postpone the date with friends and family.  But some really hot and tasty food coming my way soon.

I first came to know about Laksa La Mien and Curry La Mien from my long time girlfriend, Regina from home.  She sent me some from home and I fell in love with it.  And a reader from this blog, wrote and told me that I can get a supplier here and I went ordering it of course but they weren’t in stock and I had to wait till the fall.  So I checked the website out every week and finally saw them in stock – so I ordered as many as I can.  I ordered Prima Taste Mee Siam too – so wait for my reviews everyone.

Fish Cake From The Red Shed

Posted by mamabok | Awesome,Canadian,Food Review,FoodBuzz,My Musing,Seafood | Friday 20 September 2013 12:25 pm

The Red Shed owned by Australian Shane makes good food too.  I loved it when he makes different kinda food.  The fish cake is packed with only fish and no potatoes and thai chilli sauce – pretty yummy and a great combination.

It’s cheap too – at $6 but I want 4 pieces next time with a salad on the side to make it a full meal for me. But everyone should try it – it’s pretty good.   The Red Shed is down on the waterfront – on Water Street, you can’t missed it – it’s Red in color !  duh! hehe!

I Get Paid To Eat

Posted by mamabok | Awesome,Food Review | Saturday 14 September 2013 3:10 pm

A friend/customer was in the other day and remarked that we must have some money stashed up because of the amount of time we eat out.  HAHAHAH!  it’s too funny when I hear people say that but truth be told, everytime we eat out, I get paid to eat.  So there – you know my secret now.

How do I get paid to eat ?  well, this is what I do – every time I post a food post and pictures, I get paid for the food I eat by the food review company I work for and yes, it’s legitimate and I’ve been doing this for a good 5 years now.  Don’t envy me, you can do it too.  How much do I get paid?   well, it depends on how much traffic I churned out for my food advertisers, the more traffic for my food post, the more money I get paid.

But one can expect a 4 figure amount every month if you are a good food blogger and if you command some traffic on your food blog.  I get about 10, 000 hits a day, so you do the math yourself.  Happy weekend everyone! so come by more often to my food blog and I will be making more money.
