Breakfast & Christmas Shopping

Christmas shopping was underway for the entire week but today, I made sure to eat my breakfast before doing my Christmas shopping.  I chose to have oats with fruits and a cup of coffee of course and off we went to look for a fender vibrolux reverb  for the nephew.  Like many, I didn’t have my breakfast before shopping the last couple of days and I felt absolutely lousy after an hour of shopping, so if you are like myself, out shopping for Christmas this week, make sure you have your breakfast.  I found that I was a lot more efficient today than I was the last couple of days.  I’m almost done shopping after getting the fender but i’ve others that I also need to by for.

Lunch With My Insurance Agent

005

I just came back to work from lunch with my insurance agent and like  don allred insurance  I found them online since our local insurance folks do not have the kind of insurance I’m looking for.   Back home, insurance agents actively look for their clients, while here, it’s quite different.  You have to actively look for them if you want your car, home or contents to be insured.  Health insurance are the same here, you have to choose your own agency and even when you sign up with them, they rarely keep in touch with you like they do at home.

The insurance agency that I’m currently with right now brings me out for lunch every time he is in town and even buys me a bottle of my favorite wine.  Premiums are good and I can be sure that he is the first to be there for me if I needed him.  I love all the tips and savings that I’ve learned from my current agent and am really happy that I’ve found a reliable agent for all my insurance need.

Pain Free Living

If I were in Asia or living permanently in Asia, I know exactly what I would do if I were ever ill or in pain.  I wouldn’t resort to taking medication from a doctor but will use traditional medication instead.  But because I lived in such a remote area where I can’t find any chinese medication nearby I had to look for other alternative for my painful leg that I suspect may be arthritis.   For the last year, I have been taking pain killers whenever the weather is bad, but it cannot be good for the body I figured.  So when someone recommended that I check out  superiormagnetics.com  for a pain free way of living, I figured I should at least give it a shot.

Since these magnetic bracelets and anklets are not expensive at all, and after reading more about magnet therapy,  I feel confident trying it out.  Magnet therapy has been around for a long time and if you were in so much pain like I am, you would try just about anything.  I will definitely keep you all posted about how it work out for me after I’ve tried it out.

Egg Hunt Is Still On

Posted by mamabok | Canadian,Friendship,Junke Food,My Musing,Shopping | Friday 4 April 2014 4:05 pm

A few weeks ago, I wrote about Easter egg hunting for my girlfriend from Malaysia right?  well, see what I found in Walmart today!  yes, I had been hunting down the eggs for her, so was really happy that I found some that she might want.

Look at this huge Angry bird eggs but they are not all chocolate in them, they have stickers and all kinds of toys in this huge Angry bird eggs apparently.

Now these has stickers and candies.

This one has chocolates and stickers too.  I wonder if they are the ones she wants.  Let me check with her again.

Kinder Eggs Hunting

Posted by mamabok | Friendship,My Musing,Shopping,Snacks | Monday 3 March 2014 11:05 pm

I’m kinder eggs hunting for my g/f from Malaysia, she is looking for the Spiderman Surprise Eggs Marvel Kinder Bugs Bunny, Angry Birds, Marvel, The Avengers & Captain America.  So we’ve been looking everywhere for them in hope that we will find them before easter and mail it to her.

As you can see the Easter egg kinders are in full force right now, I bought a few for Chloe already and she was tickled pink.

This is the egg hunt kit – wonder what is the difference.

And more eggs for easter hunt, this time with some new toys.  So wish me luck while I go hunting for her – and even to Halifax if I have to.

Hunting Season

Posted by mamabok | Canadian,Gadgets,My Musing,Shopping,Useful Links,Useful Tips | Friday 14 February 2014 4:26 pm

Hunting season is not here yet but I do miss the deer meat, lucky for me, we have some frozen ones from the father-in-law who does hunt once a year. But with a  Scouting Camera  I think he has more fun just camping out and doing the man thing than shooting those deers for their meat.  Hunting is such a big part of Canada and you see people taking time off from work just to go hunting.

How does the deer meat taste?  pretty good actually and if you know how to prepare it, it is really very delicious.  I used to have deer meat stir fried but now that I’m in Canada, the father in law loves making them like steak.  I remember him trying to trick me into eating it but little did he know that I’ve always eaten deer meet in Asia.  So if I miss my deer meat, I know where to get my fix.

Red Bean Soup With Glutinous Rice Balls

Posted by mamabok | FoodBuzz,Friendship,My Musing,Shopping | Sunday 26 January 2014 9:13 pm

So you must be curious as to what trombone music has to do with my dinner.  Well, i was invited to a friend’s place for dinner one night and she had asked if I could bring the lubricant that i had ordered for her kid online.  So before dinner, her kid played the trombone and showed me how much better the trombone was working after using the slide lubricants.  And believe me – I didn’t think that trombone can make such good music, I was really impressed and in awe.  Check out an example below and tell me you are not impressed with it.  But yes, i had an awesome dinner and some red bean soup with sesame glutinous rice balls for dessert.

Greek Yogurt Maker

Posted by mamabok | FoodBuzz,Home Essentials,My Musing,Shopping | Monday 20 January 2014 12:56 pm

I swear food bloggers have so much fun!  we get free food , food products to try and we also get to keep it and get paid for the reviews.  Tell me how much more fun can it get right?  Yes, I love blogging and if I didn’t I couldn’t have kept at it for this long, it’s not only because of the money or the free stuff and free food, I seriously love blogging and I’m really inspired to start vlogging soon.  What do you think?  should I vlog too?

Anyhow, my boss asked me to pick up a yogurt maker and since Chloe loves yogurt so much, I signed up for the assignment .  I said to my boss – ME! ME!  pick ME!!!  hahhaha!!  So I did pick one up during the week but I haven’t gotten to try it out yet because I’ve reviews I have to put up that I haven’t since before Christmas, so I’m gonna do that first and then come back to this.  Hang in there and wait for the review eh.

Canadian Supplier For Asian Food

Posted by mamabok | Awesome,Food From Home,Food Review,My Musing,Shopping | Saturday 18 January 2014 3:41 pm

Yes! a Canadian supplier for Asian food in Markham, Toronto! woohoo!!  no worries about not being able to get food from home now.  Well, not all the food that I want but at least some of the food that I’m eating.  Shipping is reasonable and they are very quick with their services.  Wen Ho Of Canada carries the Tean’s group of food that I’m currently eating now.  They also carry the 3-in-1 tea from Aik Cheong and coffee as well.

4 boxes of food delivered within 1 week of ordering, now that’s pretty quick.  I’m sure I will be ordering more food from them.

Rocking Music @ Local Restaurant

Posted by mamabok | Awesome,Entertainment,Food Review,My Musing,Shopping,Useful Links,Useful Tips | Wednesday 4 December 2013 2:39 pm

We had a birthday celebration to attend last week and a local restaurant had hosted the event for us.  We were very impressed with everything and the  subwoofer at musicians friend  that they had bought.   I’ve always loved good music at a restaurant when we are entertaining and this local restaurant definitely went beyond and above their call of duty to help us make the birthday of a young man really special.   Food was great a well of course and the prices were decent and most importantly we all had a good time.

Adult Chocolate Milk

Posted by mamabok | Canadian,Drinks,Food Review,Shopping | Tuesday 12 November 2013 4:03 pm

Mmmm… adult chocolate milk!  now no excuse not to drink your milk eh?  hahhaha!!  these were found in a liquor store and to be exact the NSLC next to Superstore, therefore there must be some alcohol content in them.  But I don’t really think there is much alcohol if I am not wrong.

So who wants to try some?  maybe during the festive season eh?

On Air With Local Radio Station

Posted by mamabok | Food Review,FoodBuzz,My Musing,Shopping,The Other Half,Useful Links,Useful Tips | Friday 8 November 2013 8:16 pm

I was interviewed by the local radio station back home about my food blog last week.  Indeed, I am really honored to be asked to go on a live show.  But it was during the wee hours in the morning over here because we have a 12 hrs time difference.   This is not the first live interview I’ve done since coming to Canada with our local station, so I’m very prepared for it.   With my USB Microphone, a  blue yeti pro , they called me on Skype and basically asked me a few questions about my life here in Canada and also about the food that I eat here and the restaurants here.

Yes, my readers come from all over the world but mostly from Asia and USA and I’m very happy to share with them about my life here in this small town and what people can expect in terms of food and living here.  When I first started this food blog, I never thought that it would reach so far and become so popular with more than 10, 000 fans on my blog a day.  I’m grateful for the opportunity to share about not only food but the education, the climate, and the living in Canada experiences.  Since it was a live show, I cannot share the link with you here but the next time, I might  give you a heads up, so you can hear what the interview was all about.

Food From Prima Taste

Posted by mamabok | Awesome,Chinese,Food From Home,My Musing,Shopping | Wednesday 25 September 2013 12:01 pm

Food from home !! woohoo!! they just got in today !  and I had been waiting for it for a week now, well, it was a week late but no worries, the supplier gave me a whole box of it for free for being late! woohoo!!! FREE FOOD ! is always good.  Now I can have a Prima Taste party at the Zhu’s.  I had planned it for last week but since the food didn’t come, I had to postpone the date with friends and family.  But some really hot and tasty food coming my way soon.

I first came to know about Laksa La Mien and Curry La Mien from my long time girlfriend, Regina from home.  She sent me some from home and I fell in love with it.  And a reader from this blog, wrote and told me that I can get a supplier here and I went ordering it of course but they weren’t in stock and I had to wait till the fall.  So I checked the website out every week and finally saw them in stock – so I ordered as many as I can.  I ordered Prima Taste Mee Siam too – so wait for my reviews everyone.

Sobeys New Recycle Bags

Posted by mamabok | Home Essentials,My Musing,Shopping | Monday 23 September 2013 12:13 pm

Sobeys has a new design for their recycle bags – have you bought one and support Sobeys for their effort in saving the environment?  Well, one of the cashiers asked PB if he wanted to buy one but of course, he didn’t !  I would love to buy one but we were in a hurry so the next time, I’m gonna buy one.

Love the new bag though – it’s very nice and meaningful design.  So go on and buy one and save the earth !

Dinner & Live Music

Posted by mamabok | Acadian,Awesome,Entertainment,FoodBuzz,My Musing,Shopping,Useful Links,Useful Tips | Tuesday 30 July 2013 11:34 am

Dinner and live music at our local restaurant is a must to go when you have friends visiting from away.  I did attend one that had  violins at musicians friend  but this singer and songwriter is what we planned to do with some friends from Australia.  I don’t know about other people but I’ve always loved live music and performances when I’m eating on a special occasion, I find it so entertaining and romantic.  Now does one tip the performer/s?  I’ve always wondered, I guess if you had a violin player playing right in front of your table, it’s a must to tip him/her but if the singer is performing – what does one do?  I have to check with the restaurant owners and see what is the common practice here.  Have you been to a live performance?  do you like them?  i love being serenaded while one is eating what about you?

The Coffee Addict

Posted by mamabok | Coffee/Tea/Hot,Drinks,My Musing,Organic,Shopping,Useful Links,Useful Tips | Tuesday 25 June 2013 9:37 pm

I love coffee and have to have at least a cup a day if not more.  I try to limit myself to maximum two cups and I’m quite fussy with the type of coffee I drink and where I drink my coffee.  There isn’t any designer coffee in town but we do have a specialty store that just opened up recently.  Unfortunately, their coffee still needs a little work.  I don’t expect designer coffee like we have back home but the coffee I had didn’t have enough kick to it and also they are usually plain old coffee.

I currently brew my own coffee and I find that the coffee that I’m using is by far the best and cheapest as compared to what I get in this specialty store and Tim Horton.  If you want to try some folgers coffee click here  , this is what I’m currently into and i loved the taste of it.  They have the classic roast or the Colombian ones which are a lot stronger.  They also have decaf, if you are into decaf.  At one time, I roasted my own coffee but buying them here is a lot easier I find and they taste just like the ones I’m used to back home.  So coffee addicts/lovers out there can give this a try.

Healthy Eating With Yoga

Posted by mamabok | Health,My Musing,Shopping,Useful Links,Useful Tips | Monday 17 June 2013 9:14 pm

Summer is here and I’ve put on some weight from not exercising a lot.  I make excuses in the winter – telling myself that it’s too cold to do anything but there is no excuse just to do yoga right?  So this summer I’m going to be doing yoga and getting some  yoga gear for women  was easy.  I’ve ordered my yoga pants, yoga mat and even got a kid’s yoga kit for my Chloe.

Yoga is good for a lot of things in our life, not only does it help with our health, it is actually quite therapeutic.  I find it so calming to practice yoga, these days – I don’t feel so stress.  I hope by practicing yoga 3 times a week, I will eventually stop taking my panic medication because I’ve heard good results from people like myself who are on meds.  One can definitely look forward to a healthier year.

BBQ Season

Posted by mamabok | BBQ,Gadgets,My Musing,Shopping,The Other Half,Useful Links | Friday 10 May 2013 10:31 pm

So we had our first BBQ chicken, hotdog and beef patties this year and even though we didn’t have a regular BBQ pit set up yet, our friends had a make shift one with charcoal.  They had to use a  destaco  clamp to put the make shift BBQ together but they did a really good job. And since it was a charcoal BBQ we had to take turns to watch the fire in case it becomes too hot and burn the food.

I really think that there was a real difference in taste when it comes to charcoal BBQ and the gas type, you can taste the difference and the food seems to cook a lot faster.  I can’t wait to experiment more with the charcoal BBQ pit.  Hopefully, the weather will continue to stay warm – not too hot though – and not foggy that’s for sure.

Pet Food At Sobeys

Posted by mamabok | Amusing/Bizarre,My Musing,Shopping | Friday 5 April 2013 10:52 am

Not at the local Sobeys but the Sobeys up in the city and I was kinda surprised and hope that the sobeys here don’t go selling pet food too because we do have pet food shops here like the Ascension Pet Needs next to Car Quests where Jungle Jim’s is.   Love Sobeys but would hate if we lose a local business if they start doing that.

In the city, the population is greater, so they can afford to have a Sobeys that carries pet food but not in a town with less than 7000 in population.

I don’t own a pet but if I do, I would want to support our local business just because they know more than your ordinary cashier at Sobeys and they can do special orders for you as well.

I love Sobeys for their groceries but no don’t bring in the Pet food, just like don’t get into movies  – because there are local stores like ours who does movies.
